Tips for a better photo

  • Use a plain white wall and light that doesn’t cast shadows behind you.
  • Take off your glasses and anything covering your face or head.
  • Look straight into the camera with a neutral expression.
  • Print on photo paper, not plain paper.

The official rules decide, and they change. This tool helps you meet the rules it knows, but it can’t promise a photo will be accepted: check the official page, and ask the office if in doubt.

In millimetres: 35 × 45 mm.

How to make a Mexican passport photo

  1. Take a photo against a white wall, facing the camera, without glasses, or choose a recent one.
  2. Check the framing and the checks: face uncovered, eyes level, an even white background.
  3. Make your photos and print the sheet at 100% on photo paper.

Questions

Do I need to bring photos for a Mexican passport?

Usually not: the SRE takes your photo at the appointment. Some offices ask for printed photos now and then, and consular procedures such as visas need them, so check your appointment instructions.

What size are the photos?

Mexico’s consulates ask for 3.5 × 4.5 cm, in colour, on a white background, with the face uncovered, looking straight ahead and without glasses. No head size is given, so the tool uses the usual 70–80% of the height.

Can I edit the photo?

No. The consulates ask for photos without filters or editing, so take it against a white wall rather than replacing the background.

How recent must the photo be?

Recent: consulates ask for one taken no more than six months ago.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser on this device: framing, the checks, the background and the print sheet. Your face photo is never sent to a server, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
