CMYK uses the simple formula, without a color profile. Printers convert with their own profile, so treat it as a starting point.

How to convert RGB to CMYK

  1. Type or paste a color, such as rgb(0, 128, 128).
  2. Read the CMYK value at the top, with every other format under it. It updates as you type.
  3. Copy what you need, and check how readable the color is on white and on black.

Questions

Is anything sent to a server?

No. Colors are converted in your browser on this device, as you type, and nothing is stored.

How is RGB converted to CMYK?

Black (K) is 1 minus the largest of red, green and blue, each divided by 255. Cyan is then (1 − red − K) ÷ (1 − K), and magenta and yellow the same with green and blue. rgb(0, 128, 128) gives cmyk(100%, 0%, 0%, 49.8%).

Will the print look like my screen?

Not exactly. Screens give off light and paper reflects it, and every printer, ink and paper behaves differently, so print shops convert with a color profile such as FOGRA39 or GRACoL. Use these values as a starting point, and ask for a proof when the color matters.
