Questions
Are my recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording, trimming and saving all happen in your browser on this device. Your clips stay on this page until you close it, unless you tick Keep clips in this browser: then they’re kept in this browser’s storage on this device until you delete them. They’re never sent anywhere.
Which format should I choose?
MP3 plays on everything and is small, so it’s good for sharing. WAV isn’t compressed, which makes it the best choice for editing, but it’s about ten times bigger. WebM (Opus) is the smallest at good quality and plays in browsers and most apps, though not in every older player.
What do noise suppression and echo cancellation do?
Noise suppression turns down steady background sounds such as fans and traffic. Echo cancellation removes the sound of your own speakers coming back into the microphone. Both are made for speech: turn them off to record music, or to keep the natural sound of a room.
How long can I record?
As long as you like, while your device has room: an hour of speech takes about 45 MB. Keep this tab open while you record. Saved as WAV, a minute takes about 6 MB, so choose MP3 for long recordings.
Can I turn a recording into text?
Yes. Save it, then open it in Transcribe audio and video, which turns speech into text and subtitles in your browser, again without uploading anything.
