Questions
What’s the time difference between EST and IST?
India Standard Time (UTC+5:30) is 10 hours 30 minutes ahead of Eastern Standard Time (UTC−5). From the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, New York is on daylight saving time (EDT, UTC−4) and the gap shrinks to 9 hours 30 minutes. India doesn’t change its clocks, so 9:00 AM in New York is 7:30 PM in India in winter and 6:30 PM in summer.
Why does the page say EDT when I chose EST?
Many people write EST all year, but New York only uses it from November to March. Here EST means New York time, and the page says whether daylight saving time (EDT) applies on the date you chose. If you really mean UTC−5 all year, choose UTC−5 instead. IST here is India Standard Time, not Irish or Israel Standard Time.
When is a good time for a meeting between the US East Coast and India?
No hour falls inside a 9-to-5 day in both places. The usual compromise is early morning in New York, which is evening in India: 8:00 to 9:30 AM Eastern is 6:30 to 8:00 PM in India in winter, and 5:30 to 7:00 PM in summer. The other option is late evening in New York, which is the next morning in India.
