  3. Read the differences: removed lines are marked −, added lines +, and changed words are highlighted.

Questions

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser on this device. Your text is never uploaded or stored, so it’s safe to paste private documents.

How do I read the differences?

Lines marked − are only in the original text, and lines marked + are only in the changed text. When a line was edited, both versions are shown and the changed words are highlighted: crossed out in the original and underlined in the changed text. Long stretches with no changes are folded away; use the button to show them.

What do Ignore case and Ignore whitespace changes do?

Ignore case treats capital and small letters as the same, so “Hello” matches “hello”. Ignore whitespace changes treats lines that differ only in spaces, tabs or indents as the same, which helps when the layout of a text or code has changed.

How long can the texts be?

Up to 200,000 lines each. Long texts are compared when you press Compare. If two long texts are very different, the comparison may stop early and show some lines as removed and added instead of matching them up, and the tool tells you when that happens.
