JSON formatter and validator

Paste JSON to format it with clean indentation, minify it, or find exactly where it’s broken. It all happens in your browser, so API responses and customer data stay private.

Formatted JSON

How to format JSON

  1. Paste your JSON into the box.
  2. Choose the indentation and whether to sort keys, then press Format, or Minify to remove the spaces.
  3. If the JSON has a mistake, the error gives its line and column. Otherwise copy or download the result.

Questions

Is my JSON sent anywhere?

No. Formatting and checking happen in your browser on this device. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored, so it’s safe to use real API responses, configuration files, tokens and customer data.

Why does it say my JSON isn’t valid?

JSON is stricter than JavaScript: names and text need double quotes, comments aren’t allowed and there can’t be a comma after the last item. The message says what’s wrong, on which line and column, and Show the error selects the spot in the box.

Does formatting change my numbers or text?

No. Numbers are kept exactly as written, so long IDs aren’t rounded, and text keeps escapes such as \u00e9. Only the spaces and line breaks between values change, plus the order of keys if you sort them.

How big a file can it handle?

Several megabytes is fine on most computers and phones. Very large files can take a second or two to format.
