How to remove a password from a PDF

  1. Choose a PDF, or drop it onto the page.
  2. If it needs a password to open, type it and select Unlock PDF. A PDF that only blocks printing, copying or editing is unlocked straight away.
  3. Download the unlocked PDF. It opens without a password, and you can print, copy and edit it.

Questions

Are my PDF and password uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser does all the work on this device. The PDF and the password you type are never sent to a server, and the password is forgotten as soon as the PDF is unlocked.

Can it unlock a PDF if I don’t know the password?

No. This tool doesn’t guess or crack passwords. If a PDF needs a password to open, you have to type it, just like in a PDF reader. If it opens without one and only blocks printing, copying or editing, you don’t need a password at all.

What are PDF restrictions?

Some PDFs open freely but carry a second password, called the owner or permissions password, that stops you printing, copying text, editing, filling in forms or changing pages. Unlocking removes these limits, so the file works like any other PDF.

Can I unlock any PDF?

Only unlock PDFs you have the right to change: your own documents, or files whose owner gave you the password and permission. Removing a password doesn’t change who owns the content or how you’re allowed to use it.
