Questions

Are my iPhone photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser converts them on this device, and your photos are never sent to a server. The first time, most browsers download a HEIC decoder from this site to do the work, and it runs on your device too.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (or HEIF) is the format iPhones and iPads use for photos. Its files are smaller than JPG, but many Windows PCs, websites and apps can’t open them. A JPG opens everywhere.

Will my photos lose quality?

Not visibly. At the default 90% quality, a JPG looks the same as the original and keeps its size in pixels. Choose PNG for a lossless copy, but expect much bigger files.

Are the location and other details kept?

No. The converted files don’t include hidden metadata such as the GPS location, camera details or the date the photo was taken, which makes them safer to share.
