Is my document uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the Word document and creates the PDF on this device. The file is never sent to a server, so there is nothing for anyone to store, read or leak.

Will the PDF look exactly like my document in Word?

Close, but not identical. Text, headings, lists, tables, pictures, links, headers and footers come across, but your fonts are replaced with the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times and Courier), so lines and pages can break in slightly different places. Complex layouts look different: text boxes become ordinary paragraphs, equations become plain text, columns become one column, footnotes move to the end, comments are left out and tracked changes are shown as accepted.

Which languages work?

Languages written in the Latin alphabet, such as English, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German, with all their accents. Greek letters and common symbols work too. The standard PDF fonts don’t have characters such as Chinese, Arabic, Cyrillic or emoji, so they’re replaced with a question mark, and the result tells you when that happens.

Can I convert an old .doc file?

Not directly. Open it in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs, save it as a .docx file, and convert that.
