Questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the PDF and writes the Word document on this device. The file is never sent to a server, so there is nothing for anyone to store, read or leak.

What comes across into Word?

The text with its bold and italic words, headings, bulleted and numbered lists, links and pictures, in reading order and in Word’s own styles, so it’s easy to edit. A PDF records where each word sits on the page rather than how the document was built, so the exact layout, tables, columns and fonts may need some tidying in Word.

Can it convert a scanned PDF?

A scanned page is a picture of text, so there’s no text in it to convert. Reading text from pictures needs OCR, which isn’t available here yet. If a PDF has both kinds of pages, the pages with text are converted and the scanned pages are added as pictures.

What about pages with two columns?

Simple two-column layouts, like newsletters and articles, come out with the left column before the right one. Other layouts keep a top-to-bottom order, so check the order of the text in anything more complex.
