GMT to EST: UK time to Eastern Time
London is 5 hours ahead of New York for most of the year. The UK and the US change their clocks on different dates, so for a few weeks in March and around the end of October the gap is 4 hours. Convert any time and see both clocks now.

Questions
What’s the time difference between GMT and EST?
Five hours: noon in London is 7:00 AM in New York. In summer both move their clocks forward (BST, UTC+1, and EDT, UTC−4) and the gap stays 5 hours. But the US changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, and the UK on the last Sundays of March and October, so for the weeks in between the difference is 4 hours.
Is UK time the same as GMT?
Only in winter. From the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October the UK is on British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1). Here GMT means London time, and the page shows whether it’s GMT or BST on your date. For GMT all year, which is the same as UTC, choose UTC.
What’s a good time for a meeting between the UK and the US East Coast?
With 9-to-5 days, 9:00 AM to noon in New York is 2:00 to 5:00 PM in London, or 1:00 to 4:00 PM in the weeks when the gap is 4 hours. Late morning in New York is the end of the day in London, so earlier is better.
