How to add up the hours on a time card
- Enter the clock-in and clock-out times for each day you worked, and the unpaid break in minutes. Add another in and out for a split shift.
- Tick when overtime starts, if it applies to you, and type the hourly rate to see the pay.
- Read the totals per day and for the week. Copy the timesheet or print it: this browser remembers it for next time.
Questions
Is my timesheet saved anywhere?
Only in this browser, on this device, so it’s still there when you come back. Nothing is sent anywhere. Clear all removes it.
How do I enter a night shift?
Type the times as they are: in at 10:00 PM and out at 6:00 AM is 8 hours. A clock-out earlier than the clock-in counts as the next morning, and the day says so.
How is overtime worked out?
Tick after how many hours a day, a week, or both, time counts as overtime. With both, the hours over the daily limit count first, then the rest of the week’s hours over the weekly limit, so no hour counts twice. In the US, federal law (the FLSA) requires time and a half after 40 hours a week for most hourly workers, and some states, such as California, also count the hours over 8 in a day.
Why decimal hours?
Payroll multiplies the hours by the rate, which needs decimals: 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours, not 7.45. Each day shows both, rounded to two decimals; the week’s total and the pay use the exact minutes.
