Webcam test

See yourself as others will on a video call: a live preview with your camera’s real resolution and frame rate, a lighting check, and a snapshot to save. The picture never leaves your device.

If it doesn’t work

The browser blocked the camera
  • Chrome and Edge: Select the icon on the left of the address bar, turn Camera on (or set it to Allow), then reload the page.
  • Firefox: Select the crossed-out camera in the address bar, remove the block, then select Start camera again.
  • Safari on a Mac: Open Safari → Settings → Websites → Camera, and set this site to Allow.
  • iPhone and iPad: Tap the page menu (aA) in the address bar → Website Settings → Camera → Allow.
  • Android: Tap the icon on the left of the address bar → Permissions, and turn Camera on.
The system blocks it
  • Mac: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera: turn on your browser, then quit and reopen it.
  • Windows: Settings → Privacy & security → Camera: turn on Camera access and Let desktop apps access your camera.
  • Android: Settings → Apps → your browser → Permissions → Camera → Allow.
  • iPhone and iPad: Open Settings, find your browser (under Apps in recent versions) and allow the camera.
The wrong camera is used
  • Choose the right one in the Camera list above. Plug in an external camera before you select Start camera, or select it again afterwards.
The picture is black
  • Open the camera’s privacy shutter, or switch the camera on: some laptops have a switch or a key with a camera on it.
Another app is using it
  • Close meeting, chat and camera apps and other tabs that use the camera, then select Start camera again. On Windows, a camera usually works in one app at a time.

The picture stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to webcam test

  1. Select Start camera and allow the camera when your browser asks.
  2. Check the preview, and choose another camera from the list if you have more than one.
  3. Read the resolution, frame rate and lighting tips, and take a snapshot if you like.

Questions

Is my video recorded or uploaded?

No. The preview comes straight from your camera to this page and is never sent anywhere. A snapshot is only taken when you ask, and stays on this device unless you download it.

Why is my picture mirrored?

The preview starts mirrored, like a mirror, because that feels natural when you look at yourself. Most meeting apps do the same on your screen but send the other people the picture the right way round, so writing you hold up reads correctly for them. Use Mirror to switch.

What does the lighting check look for?

It measures how bright the picture is. Too dark makes the picture grainy. Backlit means there’s more light behind you than on your face, as with a window behind you. The best light is in front of you, such as a window or lamp behind your screen.

Why is the resolution lower than my camera’s?

This page asks for up to 1080p. A camera may give less, or fewer frames per second, in dim light, through a slow USB hub, or while another app is using it. Meeting apps often send a lower resolution still, to save bandwidth.

The camera won’t start. What can I do?

Check that no other app is using it (on Windows, a camera usually works in one app at a time), that your browser is allowed to use it, and that any privacy shutter or camera switch is open. The steps under If it doesn’t work go through each one.

Use DigiTools offline

Keep every tool in English on this device, so they work without an internet connection.

AI models aren’t included: each AI tool downloads its own the first time you use it.

Add DigiTools to your Home Screen

  1. Tap the Share button in your browser’s toolbar.
  2. Choose “Add to Home Screen”. You may need to scroll down to find it.
  3. Tap Add.

DigiTools then opens from your Home Screen like an app, and tools you’ve opened work offline.
