Tips for a better 3 × 4 photo
- Use a completely white background with nothing behind you.
- Keep your hair away from your face and neck, and your face lined up with your shoulders.
- Look straight ahead with a neutral expression.
- Take off glasses, caps and earrings.
The official rules decide, and they change. This tool helps you meet the rules it knows, but it can’t promise a photo will be accepted: check the official page, and ask the office if in doubt.
In millimetres: 30 × 40 mm.
How to make a 3 × 4 photo
- Take a photo against a white wall, facing the camera, with no glasses or earrings, or choose a recent one.
- Check that your face takes about two thirds of the frame and your shoulders show below.
- Make your photos and print the sheet at 100% at a photo shop, then cut along the lines.
Questions
What size is a 3 × 4 photo?
3 cm wide and 4 cm high (30 × 40 mm). Brazilian ID card guides ask for a completely white background and a frame of about two thirds face and one third body, which is what the tool aims for.
Which documents use a 3 × 4 photo?
Many forms, enrolments and professional cards. Identity cards and passports are usually photographed at the office now, and some services ask for a 3 × 4 only when their camera isn’t available, so check what your office asks for.
Can I smile or wear glasses?
The Paraná identity card guide asks for a neutral expression with no smile, the eyes looking straight ahead, and no glasses or accessories such as earrings or caps.
How many fit on a sheet?
Nine on a 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm) photo print, and many more on A4. Print at 100%, not “fit to page”, so each photo comes out at exactly 3 × 4 cm.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser on this device: framing, the checks, the background and the print sheet. Your face photo is never sent to a server, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
