UK time rules, as of 2026
- The UK uses Greenwich Mean Time (GMT, UTC+0) in winter and British Summer Time (BST, UTC+1) in summer.
- The clocks go forward at 1:00 AM on the last Sunday in March and back at 2:00 AM on the last Sunday in October, under the Summer Time Act 1972, on the same days as the EU. In 2027 that’s March 28 and October 31.
- GMT is named after the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, where the prime meridian runs. For everyday use it’s the same as UTC, the world’s time standard.
- As of 2026, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey keep UK time, and Gibraltar is on Central European Time, an hour ahead.
