- Mainland Portugal and Madeira use Western European Time: UTC+0 in winter (WET) and UTC+1 in summer (WEST), the same as London and an hour behind Madrid.
- The Azores are an hour behind Lisbon all year: UTC−1 in winter and UTC+0 in summer.
- The clocks change with the rest of the EU, at 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October: at 1:00 in March and 2:00 in October in Lisbon, an hour earlier in the Azores. Decree-Law 17/96 sets Portugal’s legal time, and the Lisbon Astronomical Observatory keeps it.
