Brazil’s official time, as of 2026
- Brasília time is UTC−3, three hours behind Greenwich. It’s the official time of the Federal District and 20 states, and what Brazilians mean by “horário de Brasília”.
- Amazon time (UTC−4) is an hour behind Brasília: Manaus, Cuiabá, Campo Grande, Porto Velho and Boa Vista. Acre time (UTC−5) is two hours behind, and Fernando de Noronha (UTC−2) an hour ahead.
- Brazil’s South, Southeast and Centre-West had summer time until 2019, when Decree 9,772 ended it. In September 2026 the Ministry of Mines and Energy decided again not to bring it back for the 2026/2027 summer.
- The zones go back to a 1913 decree. Law 12,876 of 2013 last changed them, putting Acre back two hours behind Brasília after a 2010 referendum.

Questions
What time zone are São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in?
Brasília time: as of 2026, UTC−3 all year, with no daylight saving time. Most of Brazil’s people live in this zone, so it’s what “Brazil time” usually means.
Does Brazil have daylight saving time?
Not as of 2026. Decree 9,772 ended it in 2019, and in September 2026 the government confirmed it won’t return for the 2026/2027 summer. Bringing it back would take a new decree; if that happens, your browser’s time zone rules update and so does this clock.
How many time zones does Brazil have?
Four, as of 2026: Fernando de Noronha (UTC−2), Brasília (UTC−3), Amazon (UTC−4) and Acre (UTC−5). When it’s noon in São Paulo, it’s 11:00 in Manaus and 10:00 in Rio Branco.
